I am going to apply to Pomona ED for sure because it's my dream and school and I was wondering does applying ED increase your chances and if so, by how much?

As Pomona’s website states, it typically “enrolls less than 30% of its freshman class” through ED. Given that the number of students applying ED is considerably lower than that applying RD, a larger percentage of ED students will be accepted, especially since it’s a binding decision and the College doesn’t have to be overly concerned with yield.

Good luck!

It will help your acceptance chances considerably. However, there isn’t much room to negotiate financial aid (not saying you can’t), and the financial aid should be pretty adequate for your parents’ income already since its need based.

^ No, it will not “considerably” help your acceptance chances.

someguy, I’m glad to hear you’ve decided to apply ED to Pomona- it’s a school that I very much enjoy attending. The ED application is made available for students who have identified Pomona as their top choice school and allows for them to hear back earlier than they otherwise would. Although the application rate for ED is slightly higher than for regular admission this is largely because the ED application pool has more competitive students. Overall, you may have a slight advantage.

The bottom line is that anyone who is accepted ED would most likely have been accepted regular decision as well. It’s just a matter of being able to receive a decision sooner rather than later.
