i was wondering if it was worth it to apply for 11th grade? how hard is it to get in? are new juniors common? which school typically accept new juniors?does lawrenceville accept juniors?

Hi, psoccer,
It depends on your answers to many questions, including what your interests are and why you want to apply for a change. Almost all schools take 11th graders, but it tends to be a much lower number of incoming students (for 11th, 12th & PG years) than it is for 10th grade transfers, which can mean the competition is tougher for those years. At a lot of boarding schools, 11th grade is a notoriously tough year academically and there can be some difficulties adjusting to that while adjusting to all of the other changes that come with a new prep school.

Why are you thinking about applying? Are you currently going into 10th grade?

I’m looking to do this too. I think if it’s in your best interests, do it- if your current school isn’t cutting it academically, try to transfer. 11th grade transfers aren’t super common, but not unheard of either.

i was thinking of applying to lawrenceville, maybe as a day student. i’m not sure yet if i would apply to other boarding schools. and yes, i’ll be in 10th grade this fall.

While the number of new juniors is significantly lower at most schools, the number of applicants is probably equally low. So, I wouldn’t worry to much about that.
