Applying for a Major help

This is probably a dumb question but I am a high school junior and I never understood it. I'm looking into applying to the School of Theatre at USC.

I don't understand how it works. Do I have to get accepted to the entire school and then get accepted into the School of Theatre or is that completely different and I put in both applications but I'm really only applying to the School of Theatre being a part of USC but in its own standards and things.

Its hard to explain what I'm confused sorry, I guess what I mean is, it says that you must audition, and then after they have call backs and then they say who got accepted into the School of Theatre at USC. So does that mean that though you send your application into USC it's basically just the School of Theatre that decides if you're in or not based on your application.

Does anyone no what I'm saying? Can someone answer my question. I realize it's probably dumb and everyone else knows but I never understood how applying under a major or a school in a university worked.
Thank you

It's not a dumb question; different schools do it differently. For example, if you're rejected from CALS at Cornell, you're rejected from Cornell entirely. If you're rejected from BME at Hopkins, however, you can still get into Hopkins as another major.

I think that is how it probably works. Even if you get into USC, you may or may not be admitted to the Theatre school, hence the double application process.

Thanks, where would it say this. I loked on the website and I don't know where they would mention it or how they would.

bdfhjl: check out the homepage where it says:

Please note that you must apply separately to both USC and to the School of Theatre.

Also download the applications and check them out to get a preview
of what you will need next year when you apply

:)

This is what I mean, I'm not sure what they mean by apply separately. Does this mean that I have to be accepted to USC to be able to get into the School of Theatre or does it mean that my application goes straight to the School of Theatre?

It looks like you will have to be accepted by both (i.e the USC School of letters
& Sciences
AND
School of Theater)
In order to be able to matriculate in the school of theater....

:)
