Applying for an easy major then switching to desire major

How often does it happen? And do the UC's/CSu's allow us?

Thanks

Curious about this myself, especially UCLA since I can list two majors on the app, and wondering how to choose the second one.

Certain majors you are not allowed to switch into after you transfer, i know you can’t get into econ after transferring

It’s intentionally very hard to switch majors after you transfer, for this exact reason.

isus, how hard? What do you have to do to switch into a non-impacted major?

As long as the major you want to switch into is in the same department and isn’t impacted, it shouldn’t be very hard to change majors.

I just got off the phone with one of the UCs, you are allowed to switch your majors right now and it is fairly easy, you are also allowed to switch after you have been admitted and it is also fairly easy. You just cannot switch into certain majors like econ, bio, and sometimes engineering or business majors

Varies by school, college (Letters and Science, Engineering, etc.), and major.

Check the web sites of each school, college, and major for more information. You may want to ask on the school specific forums, describing the majors you are interested in.

If it is an easy major you get in with than the major that you will be changing to will probably be an easy major to get in with too.

It is a good way to dodge pre-reqs for another easy major however some schools require you to finish a certain amount of classes before you can declare that major.

it’s doable but of course the ones like psych, econ, biz, are sometimes impossible. depends on the school.
also switching between schools at your university is very hard too. but, for example switching from one letters & college major to another l&s major should be fine (of course, case dependent).
