Applying for Architecture; which classes should I take in high school?

I’m about to register for classes senior year. I have a few options. On one hand, I could boost my GPA and take 6 AP courses. On the other, I could take an art class, which isn’t a GPA boost but might look good for architecture. Which is more important to admissions–having the relevant art class or having the higher GPA?

Currently I have a 4.4 cumulative (which should go up next year) and a moderately good portfolio, so either way could be beneficial.

6 AP classes sounds like a lot to me and might bring your GPA down if it’s too much. If I were you, I’d replace one of the APs with the art class.

If it was me, I would develop my drawing skills as much as possible. It’s like writing; the more you exercise it, the better you get.
Freehand, isometric, axonometric, perspective, pointilist; I’d do something that helped me practice and develop them all. A side benefit is that this should be more of a release than an addition to the academic burden.

just do u

my friend took 2 art classes this year and got in cornell ed arch this year

Take the art class. Your GPA is fine. Make that portfolio shine!

Yeah, don’t overwhelm yourself. Take a few art classes and decide which AP’s would look best. For an architect, AP art, math and science (physics right?) classes would probably look better than AP English and History classes.

Yeah, I would take as many art/design classes or engineering classes (if offered) as possible. That way you won’t need to do extra work to make your portfolio complete when the time to submit your application comes.
