Sooo, I'll be attending UVa next year (starting in Fall 2011) and tonight I've been obsessively looking through dorm options. All the different residency halls were beginning to blur together until I came across Brown (and the VERY unique application :D). I've decided I definitely want to live there and will most certainly be applying. (: As for people that do live there (or applied and were rejected) do you have any tips that will make me a shining star applicant?

Any advice would be much appreciated. :D

(Oh, and because I know I will be met with bunches of "how do you know you'll be going there?" I should explain that I'm a QuestScholar and won a full ride etc.)

The best tip is just to be yourself. If you have fun with the application, we will have fun reading it. You’ll apply in May-ish and hear back by July. Definitely don’t make comments that are hateful towards minorities, women, etc. I wouldn’t say this if I hadn’t read applications that did that… If you have other questions, try searching the forum first - there are a LOT of threads on Brown here! If you then have more questions, just shoot me a PM and I will answer as best I can!
Lived in brown for four years,

It varies from year to year. It has been increasing lately. I know there were 150 first years applying for 50 spots in summer 2008. In one sense, you have better odds of getting in than upperclassmen because you have a 1/3 acceptance rate instead of 1/6. On the other hand, almost anyone can get off the waitlist for upperclassmen if they wait through the summer but only 1 or 2 first years at most get off their respective waitlist.

Well those are fairly decent odds. (: I’m definitely not going to wait to be an upperclassman to apply. After searching the webs (and comparing all the other houses) I know that Brown’s the one for me. It sounds so lovely! Thanks for answering my question hazelorb. If I have any in the many months to come before applying (Five months to come up with THEE best responses :DDD), I’ll be sure to shoot you a message. (:
