Applying for college... confused... help!

I just joined this forum but ive been reading some posts here and there mainly in the sat section cuz im planning to take them in october and november. Right now Im really confused with all this college application stuff. Since is summer, Im planning to do most of it now so I dont have to sweat it after school starts again. By the way, Im going to be a senior in my school and thats why Im worried about college.

Okay, so my problem is: I have no idea where to start. My school gave every junior a package about college about this and that and as I read it, I feel like Im losing my mind. I wrote down some of the stuff that I need to do like getting recommendations from teachers, the essays and all that but there is too much stuff and I dont know what to begin with.

Right now Im studying for the SAT and SAT II since I FORGOT to register for it in June... yes... I forgot.. I kind of know which colleges I will be applying for but I have no idea how to do that. The essays... Im thinking about what to write but I read somewhere they want... 3+ essays? and I have a clear picture of which of my teachers to get a recommendation from. Also my school is asking for an autobiography essay, recommendation from teachers, etc to make their lives easier when they write about me. Is this normal or only in my school?

Another question... scholarships and aids... when and where do I have to apply for these. I read about FAFSA but thats all i know.

Hope anybody can help me... T_T

Sounds like you are behind, but starting in the right place.

Step 1: Take the SAT and SAT II tests.
Step 2: Put together your profile. Answer the following questions to the best of your ability: Do you want large school or small school, rural or urban, in state or out of state, public or private? Are you interested in a particular major that might rule out some schools (like engineering, business, nursing, music, etc.?) Remember, some large public schools don't require an essay.

I was looking into colleges today and now I'm down to 5 colleges and for the SAT Im done reviewing for the math part

So if you feel comfortable with your 5 choices then you can see what they require for their applications. Look at the college websites. If you need to write an essay there are sites that will help you with that. Sounds like your high school is already telling you what to do with regard to the teacher recommendation letters. Just take it one step at a time. Unless you are applying early decision, you still have 6 months.
