Applying for college when prents are foreign

Hello!! I just started applying for colleges and I dont know what to fill out for my parents since I live in the US with my guardian and they live in Mexico. If I put them will I have to pu out of state tuition or should I just put my guardian?

This section of the forum is not as visited. I do not know the answer to your question as I am not familiar with international applications. This seems to be a question that would also apply to schools outside of TX so different forum may be better to ask. I would ask your question here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/

There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum who know a lot about what you should do.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

I've moved the question to the correct forum.

Have you talked to your Guidance Counselor about this?
Is your guardian your legal guardian?

Try googling “legal guardian applying to college”

At a quick glance it would seem that it the guardianship was required by a court, then you are independent. If it is voluntary, you would put down your parents for FAFSA.

It would seem to be the same thing for residency purposes.

Assuming you are an american citizen, I would assume you would be considered a resident of the state where you reside with your legal guardian, and that there would be 0 harm in being honest about who your parents are.

In-state residence is usually based on where your parents live.

What is your status? Are you a citizen or legal permanent resident (green card)? Are you in a different legal status?

What sort of guardianship are you in? Was it court ordered?
