Hello Everyone!
I have been considering applying for an engineering major (Chemical engineering in particular) but have not taken any physics for the last two years of highschool. (No AP or IB classes). I understand that physics is required for engineering so is it okay if if just do the subject test in physics. Will that give a good enough indication of my ability (considering I do well).
And I have also heard that for ChemE chemistry (which I have taken for IB) is slightly more important than physics so it may not be as much of a drawback.
If anyone has knowledge or past experience I would be very grateful for your input.
Thank you!
There are plenty of engineering schools out there who don’t want any subject tests. You’re fine.
It depends on what you are asking. Some schools might give you college credit for a high score, like with the AP exams - I haven’t looked for it before but if they do they will tell you how it works. Other than that I doubt it would make a difference - if they aren’t going to give you college credit then they probably won’t consider it for admissions when physics is not a requirement or even expectation for high school graduates.
Yes, you need physics - but you need to take it as a college student. Taking AP Physics isn’t a requirement to get into an engineering school. Take the subject test, if the college requires subject tests. Some schools give credit for subject scores too. Don’t stress about having not taken AP Physics!
However, high school physics may be a recommended prerequisite for physics in college.
