Applying for Fall 2008

The UIUC application for 2008 freshman is now available on-line. They have changed the rule for priority date filing. Old rule: priority date was Nov 15 and all materials had to be in their hands by then. New rule: priority app date is Nov 10 and everything needed (app, counselors statement, transcripts, test scores) must be sent (postmarked) by then. Those who file by the priority date will get an accept, deny, or deferred (until all apps in) decision on Dec 14. Otherwise the notification of decision date is Feb 15.

wow, so soon :)

i feel old

sooo, should i start now?

theres no difference between applying now and applying a few days before nov. 10 , right?

No difference, with a caveat. You must get everything postmarked by Nov 10. What that includes: (a) your application with essays which you can submit on-line; (b) your signature page at end of on-line app which you must sign and send or have counselor send; (c) a form for your counselor to fill out that you also get at the end of the app; your counselor prepares it and sends it with your transcript; (d) your official test score sent by the testing agency -- UIUC accepts only regular delivery not rush.

So if you start that application process on November 7, here is what is likely to happen: (a) your counselor won't get the form filled out and your transcript sent (postmarked) until after Nov 10; (b) the testing agency (ACT or SAT) has an agreement to send tests eletronically to UIUC on a weekly basis, so one ordered on Nov 7 will probably be sent after Nov 10.

In other words, don't procrastinate.

I did not see a form for the counselor to fill out at the end of the application and when we "check status online", it says they have received everything but the high school transcripts. Hmmm. I'm confused by this.

Just to clarify - we had a form regarding the Electronic Transcript Exchange that we have given the counselor but there is nothing for the counselor to fill out on that page. Are we missing something else?

if im an average b student and i wanna do premed at uiuc, shud i apply undeicded or for biology, i think i said this sumwhere b4

just to clarify, my son applied 2 years ago and was accepted within a week of getting all his info in (he was an engineering major). Has that changed?

Yes, rolling admissions was eliminated last year. UIUC now has two notification dates, December 14 for anyone that meets the priority date application deadline and Feb 15 for everyone else (and anyone deferred on Dec 14).

As to the above about the counselors form, what it was in the past was simply a page the counselor signed and provided class rank or answered school does not rank and that the counselor sent in with your transcript. It is is still a section in the paper application but it sounds like they may have removed from the electronic app.

I think this is the form for us:
