Please… tell us! Haha.

@Athletics, I will try, but it might me a little hard. She’s actually helping on my essay, but it seems like she’s hella busy. and she’s not my best friend kind of friend, so… yeah… haha but I will let her know…

For CALS, do I have to send my SAT scores? I mean, my SAT scores sucked, and CALS don’t really require them… But somehow Cornell wants it?

Applying transfer to CALS for Information Science
I am currently a freshman at BU, comp sci major.

Semester 1:

Writing Seminar : A
Intro to Computing: A
Microeconomics: A
Environmental Science: A

Semester 2:

Computer Science I (Java Programming): A
Calculus I (for engineers) : B+/A- (not sure yet)
Writing seminar: A-/B+ (not sure yet)
Biology 2 : B
**Note Semester 2 grades are raw score, unscaled
Class average for Biology = 65, for Calc = ~60 for Writing= ~75

GPA: 3.75-3.8

My high school GPA was a 3.84 and I was in the IB diploma candidate…I took all IB classes junior and senior year.

My standardized tests are a bit weak, but I have been told they play almost no part in applying to CALS as a transfer.
SATs : 1850
SAT II : Biology-M : 610, Math C1: 630

I have met with multiple people who work at Cornell and other staff, who I think might be giving me recommendations. I am friends with an alum who is still very much involved with the university and he will be giving me a recommendation as well. I have done a lot of research about the IS program and I am a very good fit. Everyone in the IS departemnt i have talked to agrees as well.

I have the usual ECs and such, I also run a small freelance web design business from my dorm room. I spent countless hours on my application perfecting it making sure the essays were as strong as possible, and so on.

Tell me what you think.

SAT scores are required for CALS if you have taken them before.

Does anyone know why in the world the Common App has a section to put your IM address?

^lol good point. was wondering the same

shooting in the dark here, but one possible reason is that ur AIM has an email account attached to it so it can be a source of contact?

Oh ok, that could make sense. Still, I can’t imagine, while constructing the Common App, the committee was like, “Oh, yeah, these kids are going to want an opportunity to give us their IM addresses.” So random.

lol i agree. really random i dont think u have to put one in, im not putting mine as its “bikerguy” something lol very unprofessional

haha cheeky i notice u have like 16 posts and i feel like most of them were answered or addressed by me lol

Lol, I’m guessing you check this thread rather religiously (no worries, as do I), so it’s expected that you would be the first to respond, not sketchy lol.

Alright, so it won’t be an issue if I don’t put my IM in. Haha, mine would present far more disturbingly to the admissions officers; I don’t think ‘justbringchips’ would put a tally in my ‘pro’ column for them lol.

haha yeah I do come on this thread a lot; it is a great way to relieve my nervousness with getting to talk to other applicants :D

and ■■■■■ at your comment, but i would moderate it so you dont get random Ims. btw whats ur major cheeky?

I haven’t been on my AIM in over a year, so it doesn’t matter, lol. And I’m a Dietetics and Nutritional Sciences major with a Premed concentration. You’re Biology, right?

Bah, I have a Bio exam on Monday, which will basically be the entire basis for my midyear report. Looks like I’ll be cooped up in the library all day tomorrow :/

hahaha got it then, safe choice. interesting major, sounds pretty cool. I am a biology and society potential major :D

ahh I have a bio midterm friday and am super worried. I am swamped with work.

one of my friends got into Cornell, Rice and UIUC as a Computer Science junior transfer from North Seattle Community College with 3.2 GPA and mediocre ECs.

He chose UIUC. Based on the fact that Cornell Eng. is very hard to transfer into, I suppose he lied to me. lol.

He even dropped Data Structures class at UIUC last semester coz he got very bad grades, and he got C+ on his Discrete Mathematics class.

oh well. admissions process is a lottery indeed.

@ azonic CALS does not require SAT scores at all. CAS requires thme if you’ve taken the test before.

Hahahaha, oh the worrying process of craziness. Good luck all you guys, I’ll be rooting for you from the insides of Becker library (where I will now be spending all my free time until my Genetics prelim is over…yeehaw.)

I’m definitely already psyched to be a fall transfer orientation leader, so I’ll probably see those of you who survive this grueling process then. :P

I posted this over a month ago, but again, my email is rmb283@cornell.edu if any CALS applicants have any questions, interests, concerns, etc…I don’t check CC much anymore, so this is all ya get, lol.

…Oh and for those of you who are like ‘oh noz! I got a B+! My life is ruined, Cornell will reject me now!’…that’s definitely not why Cornell will reject you (unless you’re engineering or a tough major in CAS.) If you get rejected, it’s probably your essays.

I got in with a 3.3 GPA. Miracles do happen. Ciao, folks.

^^ and i got in with a 3.49 and with a 4-credit C and a B- (in a class for my major!!!) on my transcript. show you’re really interested because that can really make up for a few dark spots on your transcript/resume. ps i had a pitiful 2.7 in HS, so it can be done :)

and yeah, CALS doesn’t require SAT scores

If I’m applying for AEM and have not finished my second Biology class, should I mention it in the Additional Information section of the common app? I don’t know how I can mention that I’ll be taking it over the summer. I hope it doesn’t affect my chances too much!

if CALS don’t require SAT score, I don’t have to send it at all right? I know it’s only $9, but I want to save that money. haha. OH, and if I am not sending my SAT scores, should I erase my SAT scores on the Common Apps?

xd00dx, list that in both a side-mention in an essay and on the common app, and also email Cathy Sheils and let her know you plan on taking it over the summer. That way the admissions council won’t have an excuse to give you when they ask why you haven’t taken Bio II yet and why you didn’t say anything.

I did the same thing, took it in the summer.

@luckey: Correction, CALS doesn’t factor in SAT scores. I was still required to send my scores, so they know you’ve taken them. Don’t ask, it’s a stupid process/rule.

ahh this thread gives me hope! I am really glad essays are important, I have always wanted to show my interest, but Cornell wouldn’t let me for freshman admissions, but now I can!

Also the first '09 decision was on April 13th. By email. I wish I could be notified so early!
