When applying to some of top 20 schools, will applying for fin aid hurt my chances of admission at all when the schools are not need blind? My family is right on the border so we're not sure if we will get any aid at all.

Need aware = Financial need is taken into account for admissions decisions

another question. Are need blind schools really need blind?

i read posts here and the help questions at fafsa and css and we filled in the numbers that we know and it is plain that we will not quality for financial aid. However we have to fill out the forms for 2 colleges that require it even for merit scholarships as our kid is a good student. So we had to do it anyway. We have already submitted the fafsa to all colleges. Maybe this was a mistake?! Would it be better just to send the Css to those merit aid colleges and then for my kid to email the other colleges to say nevermind we are not applying for financial aid?

We are also confusedby the question about owning real estate. If we own a small part of a building that was built many years ago and who the heck knows how much it cost to build originally? Great grand parents built it, so it was never "bougth". What do we put down? There is income from it. Does that make it a business instead of real estate? family members own the building as a group with a name. I am sorry if thise qusetions has been asked before.

From my experience, applying for FA will not affect acceptance to a need blind school. Hopefully others will chime in if they have had different experiences.

Sorry, I dont' know anything about FA and real estate. You might want to start your own thread with an appropriate title so that those that are familiar with the topic will contribute.

thanks! goood idea. I will start a new thread.
