Can you still apply for financial aid even if you indicated “no” on the application? I only applied to two schools so far and I realized I said no to the question of need based aid because I thought that my family would not qualify but now I’m thinking that it would be a good idea to apply anyways. I read all these articles online that say you should fill it out.
Is this still possible to do and would I have to contact the universities? Or can I just send in the CSS Profile and FAFSA to the school even though I indicated no on the application itself?
It depends. You should do your best to quickly get your application amended before they make any decisions based on what you said.
That depends on the school. Some won’t allow you to apply for aid once you say no. You can always fill out the FAFSA for a direct loan, regardless of what you put, but as to whether you would be considered for school $… As @JustOneDad recommended, get the application changed. You may have to call all the schools.
You can run the net price calculators for the school to see if you might get aid (on the school websites). Some schools explicitly state on their FA page that if you don’t apply freshman year, you can’t apply later. So that would be another reason to apply.
Okay thank you all so much! When I applied, they sent me an email with a phone number and an email to call if I had anything to talk to them about regarding my app. Is it better to email them or to email financial aid office at the school?
I know this is probably going to be redirected. If a merit award of $1,000 is given to a Texas State applicant, the school will waive out of state tuition and charge instate. Are there any other colleges that will do this? We live in Texas and D wants to go out of state.
You should start your own thread.
