Applying for financial aid/early decision?

Hey
does anybody know if you have to withdraw apps if you get in ED to a school and youre applying for financial aid? im doing george washington u but if anybody just knows generally that would be good thanks

If you get in ED to ANY school you have to withdraw all other applications, whether you applied for financial aid or not.

That’s why they recommend that those students whose decisions could be heavily influenced/affected by their financial aid package not apply ED.

What kelliebm said is correct.

If finances are a concern (which they are for most college applicants), don’t apply ED. It can be very hard to get out of ED acceptances even if you aren’t satisfied with your financial aid. Applying ED also prevents your comparing financial aid offers.

Yea, but I just need to know if what common app said is right. Do I have to withdraw if im applying for aid?

Why not ask GWU if you have questions about this? Don’t rely on well intentioned but possibly misinformed strangers.

Typically, colleges give their accepted ED applicants their financial packages or estimated financial aid packages at admission or shortly thereafter. Unless you are released by the college from your ED commitment because you can’t afford to go to that college, you are expected to withdraw all of your other applications after getting an ED admission. You can’t, for instance, wait to find out if you get into Cornell and get a better financial aid offer from it than GWU gives you.

On other threads, you indicated you needed fee-waivers to apply, and your stats were:
Sat- 750 math-- 700 reading-- 750 writing- total:2200

GWU should be a safety for you. There’s absolutely no reason for you to apply ED there.

I don’t think that GWU guarantees to meet 100% of students’ demonstrated financial need. More reason for you not to apply ED and for you – if you’ve applied ED – to ask them now to move your app to the RD pool.

Do not think that you can apply ED to GWU, get an acceptance and then sit back and wait for other college acceptances. If the other colleges find out --which is likely-- they will reject you. GWU also will rescind your acceptances.

I hope that instead of applying to ED GWU, you make sure that you apply to at least one safety that you know you’ll love and definitely can afford.

As a South Asian at a competitive NYC high school, you are an overrepresented minority from a city where lots of top students apply to the expensive and competitive schools you’ve listed elsewhere on CC that you’ve considered applying to. Many of those schools aren’t able to meet the full demonstrated need of most of their accepted students, so that will put you at a great disadvantage.
