Applying for Honors as a Continuing Student

So I was wondering if there are any current honors students that applied for honors as a continuing student and if you could talk about the application process and assimilation into the program.

I’m currently a freshman and want to know about the average success rate of those who apply based on GPA, maybe a recommendation, strong essay, etc… Also, I wanted to know about how to choose classes. I know that if I’m admitted to the program that I will have a lot of flexibility and freedom with classes, getting add codes and such, but I wanted to ask specifically about class choice for the Fall after acceptance. If I am admitted, I plan to take an honors section (of which I will be applying to separately and have contacted the professor about) in Fall 2015. I assume that I just add the non-honors section when I register for classes as a regular student? Then I can do the add-code thing later on, when I’m in the program.

Overall, any insight into how the process of applying works (i.e. any required essays? rec letters? etc.) would be greatly appreciated, as there was limited information on their website.

I spoke with an advisor for the honors program and he said all that matters is your GPA (3.6+) and number of completed units at UCSB (36 for continuing freshmen, 72 for continuing sophomores).
