applying for housing during summer

I received an offer for VDCN housing next year but I am thinking about transferring. Admission decisions for the other school will be released by June 1. In case I don't get accepted into my prospective transfer school, I was wondering if there are usually housing available at UCI if I apply for housing during the summer. I don't want to lose my security deposit by withdrawing from a lease. Thanks.

Your housing options will be limited to off-campus apartments if you wait until the summer and even then your selection will be limited. My suggestion would be to sign the VDCN lease and if you end up transferring you’ve only lost the security deposit. That way you have peace of mind that you’ll have a nice place to live in the event that you don’t transfer.

For UCI housing over the summer, you’ll have a few options. You could either sub-lease from a resident in Campus Village or sign a lease over the summer in Arroyo Vista. Keep in mind though that the AV shuttles do not run in the summer so you’ll walk ~20 minutes to class if the OCTA bus schedule doesn’t fit nicely. Ther are also chances to sublease off someone living in the nearby off-campus apartments (Berkeley, Cornell, Stanford, etc.,) as well.

You can probably find a summer sublet at VdC or VdCN.
