Applying for Junior year?

I agree with this, and gave said so on many occasions. Your argument falls apart, however, when you start pulling numbers out of your butt, instead of providing facts with sources.

Andover is closer to 10.

I’m 100% sure you are wrong.

Oops you are right I think I meant to categorize Choate with Exeter and Andover. I have researched them before btw, but yeah my analysis of this still stand give or take a few students to Harvard.

Thanks for sharing your story. Yes it does widely depend on the public school and the character of each student. I just feel like a lot of people obsess over getting into elite boarding schools like Exeter and Andover and how schools like those will be their path to elite colleges but it often may lower their chances if they came from a good public school district before just because of how competitive it is.

My S24 is thinking about this for next year but for arts high schools such as Interlochen. Anyone have any experience? It seems the academics may not match perfectly to our local high school but the music experience may be worthwhile.

My son transferred to Interlochen as a Junior, which is fairly typical for the music students. He had an amazing 2 years there and was provided so many more opportunities as a musician than we could ever have provided at home. The academics seemed fine, more discussion based and thought provoking than what he experienced in our local HS. I highly recommend that a student considering the academy go to either the 2 week summer institute or the 6 week orchestra/wind ensemble during the summer prior to attending. It allowed my son to work with his private teacher, experience the intensity of being with many other high level musicians and know that was what he wanted for the rest of HS. It is a big change and commitment. So it helped that it was his choice, not ours. The faculty do an amazing job of assisting students with college/conservatory research and of course all of the audition preparation.

I am going to pm you

One small point: the faculty for Interlochen Arts Camp are not the same as the faculty for Interlochen Arts Academy. The faculty for the latter is much smaller and often doesn’t even teach there during the summer. That being said, depending on the student’s instrument, I think it’s super important to know and like the main instrument teacher before deciding whether or not to attend. You have to make sure before matriculating that the student and teacher click.
