Applying for multiple majors? CS, AMCS...

Hi there! I'm going to apply to UW's CS program but I know how competitive it is. I think I'll be a contender, but I'm applying to other majors that interest me in order to cover my bases.

However, my advisor (I'm at NSCC currently) told me that they hold general UW acceptance for CS majors until you're accepted (or not) into the program. Is there any way around this? Even if I didn't get into any of the programs I am trying for, I'd still like to be accepted as a pre-major.

From my and other people’s observations, this kind of a situation is generally true for all people applying into competitive majors. There is certainly a way around this – choose a second major. And it doesn’t have to be competitive (in this case the UW general admission people would be deciding on whether to let you in).

If you do get rejected from two competitive majors, I doubt the UW would want you. That’s just a guess though, nothing more (UW’s objective with transfer students is to put them into their desired majors right away so they don’t waste resources picking the one they want; so I assume they wouldn’t want transfer who are going to take time to decide).
