Applying for NCSSM?

I am applying to NCSSM this year for the class of 2018. I have been hoping to go to this school since 7th grade but I feel like I’m not going to be admitted. Do I have a chance with my stats?

Freshman Year:
American History I Honors

Band I
Biotechnological Science I

Earth/Environmental Science Honors

ENGLISH I - HONORS
Jazz Ensemble Honors
NC Math 1 -

I’m trying to figure out if not being in all honors classes in my freshman year is going to break that chance ;_;

Sophomore year:
American History II Honors

Band II
English II - Honors
HONORS BIOLOGY

Jazz Ensemble Honors

NC Math 2 Honors

Spanish I

Summer Classes:
Healthful Living I
(I’m planning to take Math 3 this summer as well)
Extracurricular:
Concert Band from 6th to my 10th grade year
Senior Beta Club, Cooking Club, Chess Club, Glee Club, Concert Band (Middle school and High school), Jazz Ensemble,

I haven’t taken my SAT yet (I’m taking it on the 4th of November).

A lot of it might come down to which congressional district you are in and how competitive it is in that district. Perhaps you can talk to a guidance counsellor at your school to see how you compare to other kids that made it from your school. Keep your grades up and do the best you can on the SAT. Good luck!!!

FYI - my son plans to apply next year and he has also wanted to go for a long time. His courses, etc compared to kids we know that made it in previously indicate he has a decent chance but there is a huge luck element also.

Thanks for the tips! I’m in CD 6 but I’m not really sure how competitive it is. I’ve been studying so hard for the SAT and I hope do get at least 1900 or above. Good luck to your son!
