When you apply for CMU and for a scholorship, do they take in consideration that you need a scholorship? Because I am afraid to apply for one because that might make my chances smaller that they will accept me.

I think that CMU is need blind, which means they don't take your finances into consideration. If they don't want to give you a merit scholarship, they simply won't.

Collegefreak12, go ahead and apply for a scholarship. CMU accepts/denies applicants independently.

the president's scholarship is actually given to middle class students who DON'T qualify for need-based financial aid; plus, you don't really "apply" for merit-based scholarships. CMU automatically considers every applicant for non-need based money. If you want to go ahead and fill out the FAFSA, you can, but if you know you won't get any significant need-based money, there's no need to waste your time- just go for the merit-based $!!!

Do you know the value range of presidential scholarships? I was happy to see that my son got a presidential scholarship, but it wasn't worth very much. Token amount, really.
