Applying for the class of 2018 (College starts fall of 2014)

Guys , any idea how many got into YALE and Harvard? I know one from LGS who got into Harvard. ANd what about Upenn?

No clue. I’d like to know.

2 to Harvard (LGS JT and 1A1), 2 to Yale (KGS and LGS Defence), 1 to Stanford from JT, 2 to Columbia, 2 to Dartmouth, 2 to Cornell and 1 to Penn. Pretty fruitful early application round this year.

Did anyone get into drexel? Its mid december and they are sending out decisions

That awkward moment when your facebook wall has two ivy leaguers discussing the competition between their schools e.o ***…

^that feel LOL

Dear Bobloblaw,

Thank you for your reply and the additional information you provided. Unfortunately as you did not take Mathematics as part of you HSSC examination we would not be able to consider an application from you.

Most of the computer science programmes students will study mathematical courses Calculus and Linear Algebra so we require them to have a very strong background in mathematics.

Best wishes

XYZ

Nooooooo! :(

Guys, what options do I have? help me!

@heisenberg95, mera scene off hai bhai.

Why would a pre-med student apply for computer sciences?

Udyr2k14 - what they say is true. Computer science does require maths. How is it possible for u to not have studied maths in your high school?

the only thing that you could do right now is ask the uni if they will accept the SAT subject test in maths as an indicator of your proficiency in maths and try to self study it…

otherwise, since i really doubt it that you can go back to high school just to study maths, what u can do is take a recognized online course in high school maths…there are a number of such courses available and mostly home schooled students give them…you could try that…

just make sure that you ask the uni if they will accept that, coz if they dont then it will be pointless…im sure there is a way for you to complete the maths requirement, but you will have to work really hard for it!!! and considering how late it is and RD deadlines are so near, you might have to consider taking another year to complete maths requirements before you apply!

That’s all i can think of right now…

good luck!

p.s. i really hope that you know what you are getting into, because computer science and maths go hand in hand…if you didnt know this before then its time for you to reconsider your chosen career!

another point to consider is that no matter what uni you apply to or major, every uni has certain pre-reqs that ALL students should satisfy before they are admitted…and maths is one of them…especially in science…

@BHhazy, didn’t quite get grades to study Med.

@EarlyAction95, Thanks a lot man. I’ll contact them asap.Fingers crossed Another gap year sounds awful though :frowning: poor me sigh

P.s: How hard is it to change majors once admitted?

^ No math in highschool? o.o Not even 9th-11th?

@AltoLime, congrats on ur 100th post!

87/100 in matric (9th and 10th combined)

^talking about MATH* only.

P.s: nose surgery (septoplasty) sucks =(

Rejected from ED…Rejected from EA…should i even bother with more…and it’s not like my EA was top 10 OR 20 OR 30…this is really ughhhhhhhhh

Deferred Yale and Yale-NUS SCEA. Oh well, NBD.

This is a bit of a strange question, but what kinds of EC’s do Pakistani students who get into HYPSM usually have? I ask because I was a private candidate for my A-levels, so I never really went to school in Pakistan and have no idea what standards expected of exceptional Pakistani students are. I thought I had some stellar EC’s (FAR beyond the typical football team, debate team, drama team, basic volunteerwork/internships, etc.) and I’m taking 12 A-levels, so, not to come off as arrogant, but the deferral came as a bit of a shock.

EarlyAction95- What the … :s

Flyboy95- Have a look @ their stats:

@EarlyAction95 it’s ok. I got rejected from Columbia as well. Everything will be alright.

Duke interview is soon :S

@BhHazy You mean Drexel EA/ED right?

@Udyr2k14

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, despite that info, the admissions process from a Pakistani perspective still remains very much a “black box” as I suppose it is for everyone. Now to apply to others and hope for the best. I was hoping to save on app fees and time spent on supplemental essays by getting in during the EA round, but c’est la vie.

I got into Columbia ED!! So happy to be done with college apps

If anyone has any questions about College Apps you can always PM me.
