1890 is a terrible score. You should get at least a 2200 to get into a state college.

ATLEAST 2200 O__o … not everyone scores that high , But still they make it to a good state clg ! why is that ?

Because you need financial aid so the higher you score the better.

The public clgs never give fiinancial aid to international students . So Tell me one thing cmu2016 , if somebody gets admission in virginia tech for engineering with 1800 sat score and average extra curriculars , is it a kind of miracle or 18oo is enough for good public state clgs ?

@pkteen @cmu2016
Are public state clgs good ? I mean if my family spends 200k for Bs.ME , do u guys think i ll get a job good enough to justify y the heck my father spent 2ook on my engineering degree? And are the well ranked public state clgs ( eg: virginia tech, georgia tech , texas a&m, UIUC , UIC,oklahoma state uni. etc ) prestigious enough to compete with private ones ?
And if they are good , y the acceptance rate is very high ? And y is it easier to get into them ?

My ECs are not strong side of the app , but i want u guys to let me know how am i doing :-
» table tennis at local club ( 2005-present)
» swimming at local club( 2010-11 )
» squash at a local club ( 2oo8-o9)
» 1 month industrial internship - 1oth grade
» 1 month industrial internship - 11th grade
» 1 month industrial internship - 12th grade
» worked in hospital for a month , an hour a day after school in both 11th and now in 12th grade
»helping financially poor kids with maths (i ll do this on weekends this year)
»appointment holder , selected by serving army brigadier , colonel anf major ( prefect of my boarding school’s house this year , maybe )
So , can these ECs and a 1900 SAT score get me in good engineering public state clgs ? If not , wat else do i need ? My high school transcripts are awesome

^^^ answer this one plz ,… anybody ?

…
Koi maseeha idhar to dekhay , koi to chara-gari ko utray ((

@BHhazy You need to give us more info than that… Playing sports at a local club isn’t an extracurricular activity (unless you played with other clubs, won tournaments, etc or was the captain) and what do you mean industrial internship? That’s not saying anything about what exactly you did. Being selected as the prefect is good.

I thought sports are ECs
Industrial internships are actually for those who are in 3rd year of engineering , but there in no age limit . U have to go regularly to factory/plants . A group of students is under the guidance of a senior engineer , he lectures u , he takes u every where with him in the factory , we just have to watch him work , note down everything etc the purpose is to LEARN about practical engineering work , environment of factories and the job of engineers … it is quite hectic to stay for 3 hours everyday with an engineer , trust me .

And extra-curricular is anything u do in addition to normal course/curriculum ! … So playing at a local club IS an EC according to the definition:D

Yes you will get into most publics, I think. Schools such as UIUC, GT, UT Austin and Michigan Ann Arbor would be high matches. Berkeley would be a reach. However, universities such as Purdue, Penn State, Virginia Tech, A&M etc would be matches in my opinion. Privates such as Penn, Cornell etc would be hi reaches. Tufts etc would be a reach

Finally, be aware that although one cannot bank on it, some state universities, such as UT Austin will give exceptional international students significant financial aid, including oos tuition waivers etc. However, most of the time it is reserved for kids with stellar ECs, SAT scores (2300+) and outstanding class grades.

just check out latest qs worlduniversity rankings and apply in state universities that come after top 50. I think this is the range for somebody with a 1900.

I know people who got accepted by virginia tech and CMU with a1800 and 1780 on S.A.T , coz sat is just a part of application :/

yes you are right BHhazzy but then they must have something really special about the other part of their applicaition i.e ECs.

The one who is going to virginia tech had a few MUNs , sports ( never participated in national or regional events ) and a few declamations … and sat score was 1800 . THATS IT , and he got in

And he says that for a good public state clg , u need a good sat score and good high school transcripts and just a few ECs ( no matter how much u excelled in em ) .
I dont know whether he’s right or wrong . lets see what parraziman has to say about it :D

Hey, I’m not going to be applying this year but I thought it would be good to start posting here. Who here is going to give the SAT this November?

Hey you guys, any soon to be AS student here?

Well then bhhazy that person must have written some great essays which got him to virginia or CMU. Besides, the major also matters. but just follow the rule I said ‘just check out latest qs worlduniversity rankings and apply in state universities that come after top 50 cz that is the range for somebody with a 1900 or 1800’.
I applied in UT austin with 1860 then again with 2080 but got rejected both the times cz it is in top 50 state unis of world and wants to see at least 2200 for engineering majors. So give me one guy who made it to top 50 state unis with 1800-1900 sat score. I also agree with what perazziman said earlier…

Virginia is ranked 51st by qs. .the boy got in with score<1900 . His majo: ME
explain one thing : in usnews rankings ,wisconsin -madison is ranked ahead of virginia , but thats not the case in qs world rankings … why ? (m talking about ME rankings)
One last thing , how much selective do u think texas a&m qatar , nyuad, nyu shinghai and nus are ? What are my chances ?
I would like @perrazimann to answer as well
