Applying for the class of 2018 (College starts fall of 2014)

How hard is it to get in ?
I am asking coz i have to choose 2-3 clgs from the above provided list:D

Pitt should be considered a safety in most cases.
Their application process is weird though. They’re not on commonapp.
I submitted my app but I can’t find out how my counsellor and/or teacher can submit transcripts and recs…

Can anybody tell me the books that would be used for the preparation of ACT? i know the books for SAT preparation but don’t know about ACT…

Hi everyone.

I am applying to US universities to start my undergraduate degree in Business. I have a question and I would be thankful if anyone answers me and guides me. I have done my O-levels from The City School and currently doing my A-levels from there. I heard that we need to attest our GCE/IGCSE certificates before applying to the universities. Can anyone tell me where to get these attested? Inter board (IBCC) Islamabad? British Council? Embassy or Consulate? Thanks in advance for your help.

nope…there’s no need to attest any certificates… you counselor will be scanning them and sending them on your behalf…( if anything, just get them stamped by the school itself if they aren’t already…that should be more than enough)

i repeat u will not be sending them your original certificates or photocopies… all you will do is self report all your scores on the common app… the igcse certificates will be scanned and be sent by your counselor…and u will have to send official reports of the SAT/TOEFL etc directly from college board and ETS respectively.

thank you for the information. but there isn’t any counselor at my branch of school. someone advised me to get the certificates attested from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Higher Education Commission (HEC), etc. I am really confused as I don’t have much guidance and I am pretty much applying on my own.

I am in the first year of fsc and am planning to get admission in a well reputed american university after completing it but i am not having any ECs till now. i don’t want to drag my heels on this because i am short of time. I gave SAT-I for practice and got 1850 in that. I am also planning to give mcp tests on windows 7 next year. What can i do more than this since i belong to a upper middle class family which obviously means i have limited means of establishing myself in terms of ECs. How can i increase my chances in getting admission in

  1. Wake Forest University
  2. University of Texas Austin
  3. University of California Davis
    Please anybody tell me… :(

Please anybody answer…@pkteen…@earlyaction95

@jazzy1122 Are you saying that people get to have stellar EC’s because they’re not financially challenged?
There is one thing you must know. EC’s come from hard work and talent and just so you know, I was also an F.Sc student do don’t hold that against yourself.
Improve your SAT score to at least above a 2000 and get involved with some EC’s and remember, quality over quantity is key.

@pkteen i am not selling myself short anyways… but still i think i lack opportunity and i need almost 100% scholarship which is why i doubt my chances of going there!

Pkteen is right there…… ECs don’t have much to do with ‘financial means’ unless, you want to go to an African country at your own expense and do voluntary work…lol

Start at your school. Take part in any clubs or groups… it’s all considered as EC… any leadership positions at the school council is also an EC… do the best with what you got…
Remember that the universities DON’T want to accept a person who basically says “ I’m sorry I didn’t do much with my life coz I had financial hardships”… what they want to see is you doing something extraordinary DESPITE the hardships…… I’m sorry but they won’t pity you and give you a 100% scholarship just like that… they want to see you work for it…they want to see if you’re worth it to begin with… in Pakistan alone there are probably thousands who want to get into a US uni with a full scholarship… What sets YOU apart from them? Not having enough financial means is an ‘excuse’… And unis don’t like excuses… coz you aren’t the only one applying from Pakistan, they will probably read the app of a person who had the same ‘financial hardships’ as you, but he actually made a difference in his community, even if all he did was start a community initiative at his ‘muhalla’………

Bottom line is, get creative and work hard…… im sorry for sounding almost rude, but I think u need some tough love…

BTW….doing a job is also an EC…and considering how money is an issue for you, it’s also a helpful one!
Oh and you can always take a gap year to strengthen the ‘EC’ portion of the app…

As for a 100% scholarship… your chance of getting one is as good as any other international student’s…

Take a deep breath and just send the applications…hope for the worst…. Make sure u have a backup or 2 in case the big American dream doesn’t work out….won’t be the end of the world… have faith and determination… it will help you in the long run….

GOOD LUCK!!!

thank-you for your prompt reply and count me in on this venture!

Great advice there @EarlyAction95

@jazzy, I doubt any foreign students will get 100% financial aid at UT or UC Davis, these are state universities with discounted tuition rates for in-state students. What are you planning on studying in college?

@perazziman i am planning for a major in computer science and i know about UT that it doesn’t give 100% aid but UC Davis does i presume.

I would be very suprized if UC Davis, a state university in California is offering international undergrad students 100% scholarships. What made you think they do?

@perazziman well guess i’ve some bigger things on my mind this moment to deal with than indulging into useless debate over the wrong thing i might have written above…No dice if UC Davis is not offering that much financial aid… since i know i have a puny knowledge and which is obviously something i am working on!

Anybody applying to WUSTL? I just checked my WUSTL pathway and they STILL haven’t received my academic records… (they were submitted a few weeks ago).
Strange
Almost done with most of my supplements which is a huge relief.
Restarting ACT prep today. The ACT is going to be the last thing I need to do before I’m DONE with this which is relieving.
Where is everybody this year? The thread is unusually quiet…

Guy from the Class of 2017 here!

Hi TCF, How are you liking WPI?
