I've looked around, but I haven't found anyone answer the question. Do schools automatically throw out transfer applications of students who were rejected the previous year? I'm trying for Brown again even though I know it's a long shot to say the least.

actually...people who re-apply are at advantage (provided u have shown improvement and corrected the mistakes u committed last year... for exp. in ur essays...etc)

I beg to differ pakiboy. Yale discourages previously rejected applicants from applying.

hmm.... anyone else? Does anyone know what Brown says about it?

I haven't seen or heard that Brown makes a comment one way or the other. While they do ask on their application if you applied and what the result was, I doubt that they automatically throw out transfer apps from people who were rejected last year. That said, if you were rejected last year, you will need to have impoved significantly to have a shot as a transfer since the acceptance rate is so much lower than for freshmen.

I have known of rejected as freshman applicants who were successful as transfers. As well as rejected/rejected.

You just have to apply if you want and Do the Basics - new essays, solid reason for transfer, in-depth understanding of how the school fits you and you fit it, great recs.
