Applying for Unimpacted Majors with some prereqs missing

Is it still possible to get into the school, like ucsd or ucsb?

I’m wondering the same thing but for impacted majors (Psychology). I’m applying to uci, ucsb and ucsd without tag and without pre-reqs complete (I completed them for LA and B)
How big of a deal are pre reqs at these schools with a gpa w/ 3.5+?

Sorry for hijacking your thread.

i read from a previous thread that you can cross enroll to a community college while taking uc classes, but that information has not been verified.

i got into ucla missing pre reqs. 3.5ish gpa iirc.

It depends… If you do not complete the prerequisites your TAG will be denied and you will be put into the normal applicant pool. The normal applicant pool is very competitive comparatively. For UCSB/UCSD you will probably need around a 3.5+ without all your major prep completed; unless you are majoring in an extremely obscure, and unpopular major. Even when you are judged as a normal applicant (no TAG or TAP) you are still expected to have your major prep done. This year is sure to be extremely competitive due to the high number of TAG applicants, and applicants in general. However, if you finish strong and show upward trending, you will certainly have a good chance at being admitted to those schools. Good luck!

To sum it up, the criteria a UC will be primarily judging you on is:

 1. GPA
 2. Major prep.
 3. of units completed

@ sbdude Im talking about prereqs for the major, not for the tag.

Prereqs for your major, and for TAG are the same thing. When you TAG you have to pick a specific major and complete specific classes that satisfy the major. The same goes for general admission. These classes can all be found on assist.org. The IGETC is good to have done as well.

@sbdude hmmmmm okay, so i won’t get in if i’m missing like 3 prereqs?

I’m not saying that by any means. I’m just saying that if you are missing prereqs, you often have to make up for the gap with a higher than average GPA. It is all dependent on your major though. Social sciences tend to be more lenient on requirements than physical sciences from what I’ve read and seen. Math and English requirements take precedent as well. Just do your best to take as many requirements as you can before you transfer. Remember that you have all next semester to complete prereqs.

my experience was a little different. TAG cares about IGETC primarily. bc UCSD was my third choice, i still had several missing pre-reqs for my major of choice (history) and had my TAG approved. i know many people in the same situation with the same outcome. schools realize that a lot of students are more commonly graduating in 5 years, and that many JCs do not offer all the courses needed. i’m taking all pre-reqs this quarter at UCLA, and will still need to take 3 more before graduation.
