What will happen if i apply to a college ,like MIT, Columbia without having the SAT2.Am i going be automatically rejected????

If you don’t have all of the requirements, your application would be considered incomplete.

If you do not fulfill ANY required testing, your application will not be complete and there’s no purpose in applying. Remember, there’s a difference between ‘required’ and ‘recommended’.

Not if you have some amazing things to counteract it, but they have to put you way above the kids who do not have SATIIs. Why do you not have them? It doesn’t make you look like a very together applicant if the reason is you never got around to taking them.

I think so. You’ll have like an application checklist for all the universities and your application will be considered “incomplete” if you don’t submit any SAT II scores.
Hope this helps! :)

I am on a list with someone whose daughter got into some good colleges without any testing, but she was uniquely talented. Obviously, you would need to discuss this with an adcom - possibly before hitting submit, because the form might not be accepted otherwise.

Is this just a useless ‘what if’ question, or do you have a real situation.

Thank You Guys ,for your quick response…

My story is a little bit complicated ,i have to serve in my country’s army for 2 years and then go to college, something happened ,and i will be serving for a year only, unfortunately i was late for the application process and only being able to give the SAT reasoning on the December 4th .I dont have time for the SAT2.I am a US Citizen living in Cyprus(Greece).I have a GPA considered top in my 250 HighSchool.3.97/4.00,National Honors, lot of Sport experience (Archery,Basketball,Soccer,Swimming,Karate) and national awards, being in Robotics competitions, elections, rotary clubs and part of my country’s overcklocking team. I will be studying Computer Engineering, and i really wanted to go to a top Enginnerign college.Shall i apply to MIT,Caltech,CMU wihtout SAT2 ,or only apply to GAtech,UIUC,USC,NYU-POly,Renseller Poly …???

ANy further help will be appreciated…:)

OK, that sounds valid. You need to contact the schools and do it now. Maybe take the January subject tests and explain why they will be late. Adcoms are flexible, but you have to give them a chance, so contact them today!

i though about it,but as i realized from a previous communication with Columbia,it take a month to answer my questions. If i contact them now ,i must receiving an answer by January 21st in order to register for the Subject test,if not i fear i am not gonna be able to register. Furthermore ,i am gonna have to order the appropriate books from an online bookshop due to the fact not being available in my country, and finally staudy 2 sat2 (math2 and physics)in a month .Does it really worth it??? or stay with the my other choices???

Well, you have to decide if it is worth it. I would contact (by phone, if possible) the schools and ask them if it is even doable.

I don’t suppose you have taken the AMC, have you?

not the amc,but cms the equivalent competition in my country…and achieved a 2nd national place…

I would also recommend contacting the Dean of Admissions directly by email with a follow-up phone call. I should think they would consider taking a January sitting result if they decide your unique circumstances warrants this exception to their standing policy.

Thank ,you all for your help.

I really appreciate that you have taken some time in order to help me out.:)

Evzonas - did you go to the IMO? BTW, I doubt you will need to prep much for the Math 2.

No,i did n’t go to IMO ,it is another complicated story.I know is easy enough to get an 800,but the thing is what is the use of it ,if MIT or Caltech will not give me that chance. I will contact them ,and see how things go.:)

Thanks Again.

Generally if you do not submit something required such as SAT IIs, your file will be deemed incomplete and no one who actually makes decisions about admission will ever see it. The admissions office in January or February will send a form letter noting you did not send something and ask for it to be immediately sent and then a month or so later you will get a rejection letter for failure to submit required materials. Both of those contacts will be sent by clerks without any person who makes admission decisons ever seeing the file.

You should note schools will sometimes make exceptions for persons with valid excuses but that usually requires the impossibility of submitting something – like in your country you cannot take the SAT or SAT IIs. The problem is you may not be able to state a rock solid excuse. For example, you are taking the SAT in December. MIT, Columbia and Caltech will accept the January SAT II tests as long as they arrive in time – meaning you need to designate them as one of your free sends in the application for the January test; they will then arrive in time because they won’t review your file for admission until they arrive and they won’t send out that letter rejecting you until after the time they would get the January results if you designated them as a college to automatically receive scores. In other words, why aren’t you signing up for the January tests if you want to try for MIT, Caltech, or Columbia?

I did n’t know that.I ll give it a try on January …
Thank you anyway, glad to have you in our CC boards ,you are valuable asset …
