I am looking to apply to Penn State this fall. I had a 3.5 gpa freshman year, 3.7 sophomore, and a 4.4 junior year. By junior year I had finished AP BC Calculus with an A- and AP Physics with a A-. I have 6 AP’s including senior year, and play 2 varsity sports. I am also a part of DECA and I have taken STEM. i scored a 1900 on my SAT and a 31 on my ACT. with these score what is the likelihood of me being accepted in the early decision? Also, if i was to be denied from the engineering program would it be possible for me to still be accepted into the school? Please be honest
I think you have a very good shot. If you are worried though, apply undecided. You are almost guaranteed to get in for undecided (DUS) and it won’t put you behind at all. You can still take your entry to major classes and then apply for the major at the end of your sophomore year like everyone else. Unless you are applying to a direct entry major (you must be in the major freshman year…think Nursing or Golf Course Management), then even if you are in the school, you aren’t officially accepted into the major until you’ve completed all of the entry to major requiements. Every winter there are a bunch of kids who were denied who then changed their majors to DUS and were then accepted.
My D was accepted DUS and summer with a 29ACT and a much lower GPA than you. If you apply by Nov 30th and are denied admission to Engineering, you can always call and ask to be reconsidered for DUS. Or you can just apply DUS from the start.
Good luck!
