Applying Late

I haven't applied to any schools for transferring, but was wondering if there was even a chance that I could apply to transfer anywhere for fall even though it is way passed the deadlines. Has anyone ever been able to do that and if so how? Thank you

yah. in fall 2006. if you don't want to wait just keep taking classes and working on your EC's

Yes, I got accepted late to every college I applied to (even one as of two days ago), I'm from Iowa and I got into quite late at University of Iowa, St. Ambrose Univ, Coe College, Drake Univ, Loras, and Wartburg College.

If your not talking like realllly high high high ranked colleges it's pretty easy as a transfer. However, I'm a junior transfer, so they are using me to fill spaces in classes that are empty prolly.

Where you from, what colleges you interested in, what kind of gpa do you have, how many credits, how far you willing to go out, what kind of financial need do you have?

What you can do is, call up the colleges, request admissions, and say "hi i have somewhat unusual circumstance, and wondered if you are accepting late transfers as of now and work with late fafsa?" I got all yays when I asked, and it'll save you time in the application knowing they'll accept or not accept. Another thing is, send them your college app on the internet (usually applyweb or whatever) and send your fafsa immediately, and 100 to 1 says they'll waive the application fee, I only had to pay for the university of iowa cuz they are cheapskates.

One more thing, you might want to check the colleges your interested and seeing if the classes are filled (assuming they have an online method of checking).

Hi. Thanks for responding. I attend the University of Wisconsin in Madison. I'm a mathematics and philosophy double major. My GPA is only a 3.255 (because I got pretty much all B's in intro level courses and sadly a C in a 5 credit course my freshman year, but my sophomore year I discovered philosophy and became extremely involved and have gotten pretty much all A's in 400 and 500 level courses. My GPA last semester was a 3.763 and I was in all 400 and 500 leveled courses in philosophy.) Anyway, I originally went to UW wanting kind of a party atmosphere but now that I'm really involved in my majors I want a more academically focused institution.

I went to one of the best public high schools in the state of Ohio in Columbus, but my SAT's were only a 1280 (a 710 math, and a 570 verbal (yeah I didn't read then at all)).

Anyway, my ultimate goal was to go to NYU, but I applied after the deadline and received a rejection letter only 3 days later even though I really felt my essay was phenomenal (I had also attended philosophy courses at NYU the previous summer because I had become so involved in philosophy). I e-mailed the dean of admissions there asking if I could appeal, or at least apply for spring (because they say you have to wait an entire year, when I don't even feel like my file was really looked at because it was late), and he's getting back to me.

Anyway, Wisconsin is not the place for me. I'd really like either a more academically focused school in general or an urban environment where at least I can get more space away from the partying. I was looking at GWU (even though, according to academic rankings, that is kind of a step down), or the honors program at Ohio State (but I'd rather not do that). Basically, I don't know what to do, but I am almost a senior now credit wise and would pretty much waste a semester's worth of tuition if I'm planning on transferring, so I'd either take this semester off or try to get in anywhere. Anyway thanks for listening.

I've never heard of it before, but "Wartburg College" officially tops my list of Worst College Names Ever. Yikes! ;)

HAHA!!! how mean!!! no seriously though...lol. Ok, here is the thing. Universities and colleges with a rolling admition deadline will probably let you in, like IU- bloomington: www.iub.edu If you want to go to say and Ivy league, then just get some great EC's and do some research in philosophy and that will give you better chances. I'm not going to tell you to raise your SAT scores because i've seen a lot of people get into Ivies with those scores. What you need to focus on is your essay and EC's. um...lets see, i think i got everything...anyways good luck, and i'm sure if you want anything bad enough, you'll get it. :)

IVY league colleges, I really don't even think they'd consider this late unless you're donating your liver to their dying son.

Nicole, if you get accepted anywhere your gpa at that college may get bumped a bit because they probably won't even transfer those lower class levels. In admission itself they may see that your later semesters where greatly improved and give you more consideration.

If you are at the 400 500 level, it seems maybe you should just get your BA from that college. Also, I think transfer colleges get funny with the higher level classes than general eds and the fact you're already a senior. I think each place will treat it differently, so call those admiss counselors to find out and be as discriptive of everything as possible.

I also don't think the H.S. will have to much if any impact as your admission in transferring this late in life, I'm almost positive that for example Emory doesn't even want your H.S. after 2 years of college credit.

PS:
I know, at first I think Wartburg sounded like poo, but at least their admissions are somewhat restrictive (for you IVY league lad and ladies it's a weak requirement, I know.., (I'm not going there anyway so make fun all you want!)

On average, a student entering Wartburg from high school has a cumulative GPA of 3.48.
The average ACT score is 23.8 (the mid-50 percent falls between 21 and 27).
