Is there any difference btw applying early for RD and late (last week) for RD in terms of chances? Harvard says that they start reading apps on Dec 1 in the order they come in, but will that affect chances?

bump bmp. s

I know someone who turned hers into Harvard after Dec. 1.

She is now a Harvard freshman.
Good luck!

After Dec 1st for RD? That’s hardly considered late. when I said late, i meant Dec 24-31 or even on the last couple days.

Other opinions?

just turn it in by the deadline!

my aunt has worked in the admissions. and my family is well acquainted with college counselors. they said that the earlier you turn in your apps, the higher you chance you have of getting in. not guaranteed, but more likely.

^really? why is that so?

other opinions?

Turn it in by Jan 1. that’s why they have deadlines.
If they gave someone extra points for earlyness, they wouldn’t create the best school possible.

specifically i wnat to know if applying late to an ivy (last couple days) put them at a disadvantage compared to someone who applied, say, inthe beginning or middle of december. i knowe harvard reads apps in order they are sent in but what about other ivies? do they read in the order they come in?

does being the one of the last few read really put you at a disadvantage? i.e. the school know how many applied this year and know approx how many they want to accept and if they’re over the limit and see more qualified applicants, will they still accept them?

not that it makes a diff now, just wanna know.

All i know is that a harvard admissions staff once said obviously, they enjoy reading the first 100 essays more than reading the last 100 essays. (sth along the lines of that).

It’s probably safe to assume that Princeton does, because it has a priority deadline just like Harvard.

Harvard probably doesn’t literally give extra “points” to those who apply early. It just that the first few applications always seem more intriguing than the last few. The “bonus,” if you want to call it that, which comes from applying earlier can’t be helped.

Considering that there’s a bunch of people who had their apps in before Novermber, I don’t think it’ll make that big a difference.
