Are there any pros and cons of Applying on college portal vs applying on common app or coalition ? Some universities like Upitt , BU etc have their own portal too.
Usually one is slightly easier to fill out. Other than that, no. The choice does not matter to admissions and does not impact the decision.
assuming you apply to more than one college and they are both on common app, then use common app.
There are some schools like Bama, Gtown, the UCs - that have their own apps. Then you have to decide - do I want to apply to them - because it’s a whole other set of work.
We did common but applied to Indiana and Arizona on their apps. They were on Common but we applied individually because they were easy to do - and so we could use the 20 common app slots for schools that only took it or had more difficult individual apps.
But that might also be a reason to apply individually - if you were going to be crazy like us and go over 20 because that’s all common app takes - although you can get around that too with a second or coalition app.
Since few kids apply to 20+, i’ll assume that’s not you.
Daughter’s school didn’t charge for application directly thru the school, but if you used the common app you had to pay.
Plus the direct app was a lot simpler. Since she was only applying to one school, she just did the direct app.
