This thread is for any questions that may arise for those applying to JHU online.

My first questions is: When we print out the supplement for the binding ED contract, how do we send it to the school? Should we (a) ask our counselor to mail it to the school along with our transcript or (b) should we mail it in ourselves?

The problem with (a) is that for the paper application, the ED agreement is part of the "To be completed by applicant" pages, (so the applicant sends it in himself) so I think that should apply to online material as well.

The problem with (b) is that the agreement does not have a spot for us to legibly print our name, so if I were to mail it in, they may not be able to read my signature. Should I mail it in and put my return address on the envelope or add in a Post-It note with my name and social security number?

I'm sorry if the answer is something ridiculously simple and I've overlooked it. I've read the FAQs and the supplement instructions over and over again, but I cannot find the answer! Thanks :)

phew! i thought i was the only one who didn't know what to do with the ED form. I guess you're just supposed to have your legal name and SSN on it? maybe we can wait and see if mr.lanfax responds =D

first, it is ms. laxfan...

and second, here is what i suggest. It doesn't matter if you mail in the ED contract form yourself, or if your counselor does -- the Operations staff will process it the same way. The important thing is that you, a parent, and your counselor all sign the form. (When I applied there was a line for me to sign as the applicant -- if there isn't, then I would just add your signature somewhere on the contract page.)

The other important thing is that when the ED contract form is set-in you include your name, birthdate, and your address so that the Operations staff can match it to your online application. (SSN are no longer being used).

Hope that helps.

sorry!
wonderful. thanks for the information!

Thanks laxfan04 :D

Does anyone know why the online PDF financial aid forms ask for our 2003 tax information instead of our 2004 ones? My dad thinks that they used the same form from last year and just changed the date on top to say 2005-06, but the dates within the form stayed the same.

I just reviewed all the online financial aid forms (http://apply.jhu.edu/finaid/finaid.html) and did not see any reference to 2003 tax information. Do you have a specific link?

When I log into my online application, there is a tab that's labeled "Supplements." Underneath that, there's a link that lets me download the "Freshman and Transfer Application for Financial Aid" supplement. The PDF that I get refers to the year 2003. There's not a specific link, but try https://jhu.applicationsonline.com/app/content/FinAid_ACT.cfm. However, I think you may need a log-in to see the actual PDF.

I looked at the financial aid link that you so nicely reviewed (thanks for taking your time to do that, by the way!!), but the links don't seem to match up to the Freshman and Transfer Application for Financial Aid supplement. The financial aid links refer to the years 2006-07, so perhaps the PDF I downloaded is entirely incorrect since it's labeled 2005-06. For financial aid, which years relate to the class of 2010?

runnhit -- I believe you have located an error with the JHU Online application. I have contacted one of the adcoms and they will be looking into the matter.

What I do know is true is that the financial aid forms on the link I provided (http://apply.jhu.edu/finaid/finaid.html) are the correct forms for applicants to the Class of 2010. The "Freshman and Transfer Application for Financial Aid" supplement is a form that was used last year.

This year to apply for financial aid Hopkins now requires:

(1) FAFSA form
(2) CSS / Financial Aid Profile 2006-2007 (replaces the old supplement)
(3) Federal Income Taxes for 2004

(full description here: http://www.jhu.edu/finaid/prosp_stud.html)

I suggest you use these pages in filling out your financial aid application. Once I hear back from the adcoms about the current supplements with the online app. I will let you know.

runnhit -- I bit of an update. One of the adcoms mentioned to me today that there was an incorrect form on the JHU Online Application (the Freshman and Transfer Application for Financial Aid form) and it has been removed. They are working on uploading the correct information -- however, he suggested you get the correct forms from the website I provided you earlier (http://apply.jhu.edu/finaid/finaid.html).

I hope that helps.
Good luck.
