Just curious as to how many of you are thinking of applying to other schools even if you get into Yale SCEA.

I would apply to Stanford and Harvard. Stanford because I grew up on the west coast and Harvard because it’s spectacular in everything I am considering going into (Economics, Politics/Law). That’s it. Hopefully this will be the case in ~30 days ;)

Who else?

I’m thinking I’ll apply to Harvard and WashU. Both have easy supplements, and my WashU fee is waived. However, I’m hoping to visit some schools next month in order to see what other places I may want to attend more than Yale.

If I get into Yale SCEA I’m still applying to MIT, which is tied with Yale at #1 for me. If both accept me (and how I wish they would) I’ll have a REALLY hard time choosing! :P

Am I the only one who would drive to New Haven in a heartbeat and never leave?

haha, I’m intl so I’ll probably have to fly in.
Ok, bad joke; but hey, I’ve been told New Haven’s more of an industrial town than anything else, so I might want to check it out before accepting

Why would you possibly want to even worry about any other schools if you get into Yale?

^New Haven seems to get a bad rap, but I had no complaints when I visited.

Current students could provide better information than me, but the town felt very comfortable and had some nice streets.

there’s also the issue of FA, something that I’m going to be looking at. So for those of us going for a substantial amount of aid I guess it makes sense to apply elsewhere and see what happens

That’s only if your income bracket is above 60,000, otherwise Yale won’t expext any of your family income to go to tuition (unless you’re an international applicant)

Yeah I will. Yale is probably my second or third choice

I’m not sure what I’m doing yet. However, I’ll almost certainly apply to Harvard because it won’t require any additional essay writing.

Because Harvard exists. But in all sincerity, there are many perfectly justifiable reasons to maintain an open interest in other universities or even to forgo attendance, whether they be socially, academically, financially, geographically, or co-curricularly motivated (or perhaps relate to various intangible factors).

I have been to New Haven once (before I had even the slightest degree of interest in potentially attending Yale) and I found the area remarkably unsightly. I viewed a fairly sizable (and hence probably a quite representative) cross-section of the city and all I recall is straggled, tarnished urbanization essentially devoid of nearly all aesthetic appeal. I’m not entirely enchanted by the Cambridge (MA) area either aside from respect for its historical qualities.

well, first i’d die of happiness. only if i’m reincarnated by jan 1st would i consider other schools

If I got into Yale EA, I’ll still be applying to MOST of my other schools RD. My mind might change about which school I would like to attend

I’m applying to all of my potential schools before I’ll even learn if I get accepted to Yale or not.

^Same. Many deadlines are before December 15 for me.

Even if I get in, I will still apply to Columbia, JHU, & UChicago :)
