On the surface, your chances look good. Poly admits on an algorithm though and their way of calculating rigor has a big impact on your algorithm score. Go to “Confused About MCA” read posts 2 and 7 and calculate your MCA and report back. Use your Superscore in the calculation. They also count 9th grade, so include those in your GPA. Poly also admits by major, so the specific type of engineering will impact your chances. Let us know which one you’re interested in.
Aerospace. What would be a good MCA? Also, I think the application gave me the choice to add math (algebra) from middle school, but I elected not to because I didn’t have my transcript. It’s fine if I didn’t do that, right?
Oh, and they don’t count AP stats towards extra math, to confirm?
@ShipAlreadySank, Include your algebra from 8th grade. It will build your rigor points (stats won’t). As for MCA, no one here knows for sure as it’s never posted. We do have a bit of hindsight from knowing the MCA scores for a few students who’ve been admitted or rejected. For the most competitive engineering majors (CS, ME, BME, Aero), the bubble seems to hover around 4700. No promises though. This is an educated guesses best. ED will improve your odds.
@eyemgh “Cal Poly does not update coursework for Freshman applicants once your application has been submitted” Oops. OK, do you have any idea what a good MCA would be for less competitive engineering majors? Architecture, civil, electrical, materials, etc. Finally, is there a scenario in which they consider alternate majors? I know they don’t do it often. Thank you for replying.
Low enough that I know I won’t be accepted. I am mentally kicking myself for not including 8th grade. Oh well, I shall probably find acceptance elsewhere.
