Hey - I'm applying to Gettysburg RD. I haven't visited, but my friend just got back, and she says it's gorgeous.

Has anyone visited? Anyone else applying?

Hey - I'm applying to Gettysburg RD. I haven't visited, but my friend just got back, and she says it's gorgeous.

Has anyone visited? Anyone else applying?

Im not appin but i have a friend who goes there and she absolutely loves it. It's very conservative and preppy though, so i don't know if you're into that or not. They even have starching parties where they starch their collars to remain popped. The campus is very nice as most are.

We visited with my son this summer. The campus was very nice - facilities were well kept up and it appeared that the college was well-endowed - nice classroom, facilities. Overall, though, it is a smaller campus. It did seem preppy but most campuses I have visited have seemed pretty preppy, especially away from urban centers. We were not overwhelmed with Gettysburg, the town - it attracts tourists but still doesn't have much around it. However, everyone we met at Gettysburg College was friendly, invested in us, and students seemed very happy with the college. I think Gettysburg is working hard to raise it's standing among colleges. I would definitely visit and do an overnight if you are accepted and trying to decide, if it is feasible for you.

We visited Gettysburg this past summer too (I replyed to your Dickinson post) and will also be returning there for an overnight. It was our second visit to the campus. When we visited in February it was much quieter than during summer tourist season. And even when tourist season picks up, most attractions are on the other side of town so that you won't be subjected to souvenir shops stuffed with t-shirts and Robert E. Lee bobble head dolls. <g></g>

As with Dickinson, Gettysburg is on the edge of the business district, thus expanding the feel of the campus and making access to shops, etc. very easy. The campus overall is very well maintained and has a simpleness to it. Mainly brick buildings will little landscaping. Given its location next to a battleground, it's appropriate. The athletic facilities are old, but there are plans to build new ones although I can't remember if they will be completed in the near future.

If you will be visiting one school, definitely visit the other as well, they are only 45 minutes apart.

does anyone know how hard gettysburg is acedemically?

hey i applied too! just curious...what were everyone's stats? and where are you all from?

I applied RD

1310 SAT
31 ACT
3.4 Unweighted
4.0 out of 5 weighted

good ECs good essays awesome recs

I thought the campus was nice the only downside was the tourism - the place is flooded with tourists, especially in the summer. But the campus is somewhat distanced from the actual battlefield and main tourist hotspots.

what other schools in the northeast is gburg most comparable to? I wasnt able to visit so i want to get an idea of what its like...thanks and good luck to all!

i applied RD as well from Jersey

sara gettysburg is a lot like most of the pa schools like bucknell villanova lafayette...etc, but i think gettysburg is a little less harder to get into than the other ones. i've visited a few times bc i have friends that go there and i absolutley loved it. i was weirded out one time when it was some historical holiday and all the locals dressed up in costumes from the 1700s, but other than that the ppl in town are really friendly and so is everyone on campus

Im not applying cuz i want to engineering, I visited lst spring (when iwas a junior) with my friend who applied, and gettysburg is absolutely gorgeous. I thought it was incredible and definitly would ahve applied if I could go to a liberal arts school. LOL actually im forcing my little sister to atleast visit when she applies to colelges (she is 14 now). I visisted Dickinson too and I really didnt like it which was weirdcuz they are similar except i think dickinson is a little beter academically. However, If i was applying to liberal arts schools Gettysburg would ahve been one of my top choices because hte campus wa so pretty, the location is great and interesting, adn they area decnet school. I dont kno it jsut feels nice...

sorry for this completely random post, im gonna go now bye ; )
