Applying to 8 schools & scared!

Hey! This is my first post here, so I apologize if I'm posting incorrectly in any way. I've applying to 6 out of my 8 schools, and I'm nervous that I won't get accepted to many of them. My list is the following:

Boston College
Brown University
Connecticut College - SAT optional
College of the Holy Cross - SAT optional
Middlebury College - only takes SAT Reasoning
Tufts University
Wesleyan University
Wheaton College (MA) - SAT optional

My GPA is 97.6 and I've taken all honors and AP classes throughout my high school career with mostly A's and a few B's. I'm #9 out of about 160 students. I've danced at two dance schools and been trained in three styles of dance. I've taught dance classes and religious education classes. I have received achievement awards in music, English, and Spanish. I also received the Wellesley College Book Award. I've worked at a summer camp, babysat, been an office assistant, and tutored. I'm also a National Honor Society officer. I'm a peer mentor, Best Buddies member, Human Rights in Action member, and reporter for the school newspaper. SAT Reasoning: 1980, subject test scores not that great

Sorry that was a rather long description haha! I fear that the schools that I'm applying to are each highly selective, and would appreciate your second opinions / feedback! Thanks =]

Your grades and rank are great. Your sat is very good but maybe a little low for some of these highly selective schools.
Boston College- low reach
Brown University- mid/high reach
Connecticut College - SAT optional-high match
College of the Holy Cross - SAT optional-match
Middlebury College - only takes SAT Reasoning-low reach
Tufts University-high match/low reach
Wesleyan University-high match
Wheaton-match
Goodluck can u chance me back for my uconn jmu UMD Syracuse combined thread

Welcome to cc. Happy new year greetings(:
U dont have to apply to colleges jst bcoz you are feared of rejections…
that usually comes, but you can shine your application in lot more ways.
Make sure that your essays, and other supplemental information are really good.
you have ec as well. thats a plus point (+) .
Also your teacher recommendations should sound very good, as thts another component admission officers look upon.
If you are still planning to highly selective colleges with these scores there is no harm, make sure the rest of components (for app) are neatly organized.if you are planning to apply for college in fall 2011,then you can retake your SAT(upto you). You can have pretty good scores (:
but here is my suggestion: dont worry abt rejection, you or me or anyone(except admission officers) cant chance you…go ahead applying to these colleges, at the same time keep one or two list of safety schools l. If you are so determined to go to these colleges listed alone, then you need to consider other requirements of applications.
Not scores alone can determine your chances of getting into above colleges.

There is a major misconception about applying to these highly selective colleges…many of us think just the scores matter…and they dont consider applying just bcoz they are feared that they wont be offered a place…but this aint true…you still have consider applying…
and acceptance/rejections comes the way like they ought to be.
u aint know still with few low scores you can reach out to the ivies, ,may be bcoz you have some other impressing components in the app.
so dont let this misconception prevent you or anyone from applying to these top notch

Good luck!!

Thanks so much! I appreciate the input from you both =]

Good luck :)

Boston College 40%
Brown University 10%
Connecticut College 50%
College of the Holy Cross 50%
Middlebury College 25%
Tufts University 30%
Wesleyan University 25%
Wheaton College 45%

A better source to evaluate from are the Admissions Selectivity Rating from Princeton Review:

Brown University 99
Middlebury College 98
Tufts University 98
Wesleyan University 98
Boston College 97
College of the Holy Cross 96
Connecticut College 95
Wheaton College 93

Everything looks really great except for the SAT scores, that might hold you back at a few places but with great essays and reccomendations it might make it easier for schools to look alittle less at your SATs. COnsidering Brown’s an ivy I’d say your chances there are really low though because you’ll be going up against kids that got 2300+ and are top of their class and have a long list of awards and everything else. BC has a higher average for SAT scores but I think your chances there are still decent, not great it’s probably still a reach but I think your shot is still fair. Tufts I think is a bit of a reach too because of that but like I said the essay and recommendations might help you out. You really never know what a admissions person might think.

I think you have a good list. Brown, Wesleyan, Middlebury and Tufts will all be reaches because of the SAT score. But all of these schools use a more holistic approach to admissions, and your essays and recommendations will also play a part. Wesleyan likes to see a very rigorous curriculum as opposed to just a good GPA. Good luck to you!
