Applying to a Nursing BSN Program

I live in California, my cumulative GPA including my prerequisites is at a 3.4 I also have no experience with volunteering at hospitals. This Fall, I am planning on applying to BSN programs in California but have heard it is very competitive. Can I get some advice about OOS BSN programs that are not that competitive to get into? I am willing to go to near by states such as Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona for school. I’m kinda new to this, so any tips or advice about getting into nursing school would be greatly appreciated.

If you don’t have any volunteer experience you might start by asking yourself why you want to commit to a nursing career at this point. It may be that the career you imagine it is does not match the reality. And even if it doesn’t show up in time for your apps there is nothing stopping you from volunteering now

You are smart to consider OOS for a nursing program. I can tell you that Arizona state has direct nursing program which is supposedly an easier admit than the programs in California, but I do not have statistical data to back up that claim.

I would still apply to some of the 2+2 programs in California as a possible backups: San Marcos, Channel Islands, Northridge.

Good Luck.
