Applying to a psychology masters program. GRE not required. Would a high GRE score help if low GPA?

I am looking to apply to a psychology masters program. It doesn’t require a GRE score but I was wondering if getting a high GRE score will help with my average GPA (3.3-3.4)?

Thanks!!

Probably not very much. Most graduate programs are much more interested in your subject-specific performance over a sustained period of time than your performance on a 3-hour test one time that doesn’t even test the specific areas you’re studying. GPA almost always carries more weight than the GRE scores.

Why would that help? You said yourself the GRE is not required.
