Applying to Academy

Hi,

I’m a junior high school girl interested in going to the Air Force Academy. I’m first wondering what are my chances for getting accepted and if there are graduates from the academy that would like to share their overall experiences. If you had the chance would you do it all over again ?

I’ve been swimming competitively for 4 years (varsity letter)
On the nordic ski team for 3 years
and on track and field
My gpa is 3.9
ACT - Planning on retaking it
Composite 28
english 28
math - 30
reading- 25
science - 27

I’m also taking plenty of AP classes

I’m also active in Key Club (volunteering), Yearbook and planning on joining NHS

Thanks

You can check out these sites:

[United States Air Force Academy](United States Air Force Academy - The Princeton Review College Rankings & Reviews)

it’s been said many times before, but your guess is as good as ours.

as to whether we’d do it again-it depends on who you ask. lol, this place isn’t for everyone, but i’ll tell you it’s amazing and i couldn’t be happier.

I’ll second that.

Thirdsies… :)

What leadership have you had?

Your ACT composite is slightly below average. GPA is about average. Swimming and ski team commitment are a plus.

No one but the admissions panel can really tell you “yes/no.”

I haven’t graduated, but I am definitely glad I am here.

^ also a good site, dedicated to just the USAFA.

[Service Academy Consulting](http://www.serviceacademyconsulting.com/aboutus.html)

and check that one out.

Search around in the three forums that have been provided and you’ll get a treasure chest of information on life at and after the academy. Good luck.

You have a lot going on for a gal in Junior High! I didn’t know they had AP courses for junior high students.

Get all the information you can and keep up your grades.

retake the ACT like you said; remember the academy takes the highest scores from each area, not all the scores from each test. as people have said, no one can really tell you whether you’ve got a good shot or not. it all comes with applying and finding out for yourself from admissions  work hard your junior/senior year, but have a good time and enjoy high school. i daresay that if you get in, you’ll cherish the memories you make in high school more than your other friends will. so take advantage of it!

we can’t tell you anything from your stats on your chances of getting in

but yes, i would do it all over. i am loving this place (although i don’t always admit it) and could not see myself being anywhere else. that being said, make sure you are going BECAUSE YOU WANT TO GO, not because someone else wants you too or you’d think it’d be a cool experience. think about why you want to go, and realize you will be giving up freedoms, be given nearly endless opportunities, and above all will be serving in the United States Air Force upon graduation
