Hi, when applying to American, do you have to apply into a specific school? (for example, the School of International Service) After looking on their website, I can’t find the answer. (Maybe I’m looking in the wrong place?)

Thank you!

No, you apply to the university as a whole, not a specific college.

but you do indicate intended major and then your acceptance is in to the school with that major.

Unlike some colleges AU lets you switch schools very, very easily and it doesn’t affect acceptance. Two examples of what it is like in other schools:

SUNY Binghamton: My son applied to SUNY Binghamton as undecided and then wanted to apply to the school of business - he was told that although he was accepted to SUNY Bing, he would only be accepted to the business school at a later date if more than usual amount of people dropped out and there was a very small chance of that happening.

University of Maryland at College Park: Another school at which it mattered was UMD - they have different acceptance rates at the different schools and if you apply undecided, you need a certain GPA and can only apply to the Smith school after you have a certain number of credits.

At AU, it is no big deal- he applied initially as undecided, but just filled out some paperwork and he was in the business school that day.
