Applying to an Ivy?

Hello,

I have to make the decision tonight about where I want my transcripts sent. I am applying to safety, matches, and reach schools. However, I have been considering applying to a lower Ivy. I know my ACT score is not good enough; however, I think I can improve it. Do you think it is worth my time to apply?

School:
GPA: 3.9 (UW) 4.07 (UW)
Rank: 2 out of 112
State: District of Colombia (not really a state, but...)

Courseload:
By end of senior year will have: 6 AP (out of 8) and 2 college course at a pretty highly regarded university
AP Scores:
AP US- 5, AP Art History-5, AP Language- 4

Testing:
SAT: 1900
ACT: 30 (retaking in December)
SAT II: US History- 790, Lit.- 700, (taking Math II)

Interests: History, maybe minor in a language

-Internships with an art museums/historian
-Piano
-Youth Group
-Literary Magazine
-National Honor Society
-Work experience at a public library

-Volunteer work at museum, non-profit, and library
Awards:

Thanks for any responses!

SAT is way too low, but your GPA and EC’s are very strong. What did you have in mind by “lower ivies”

Darthmouth probably

No harm in applying but with test scores like that it’s a pretty high reach.

Dartmouth is a very scores oriented school. I’d check out some of the schools at Cornell with lower score medians if “ivy” is the mission.

I think you spelled District of Columbia wrong. Just a FYI in case you spelled it wrong on your app as well.

I decided not to apply, because I prefer the other schools I am applying too.

since ur retaking ur act in dec u could still save urself
do well on act and ur chances should increase
but even then, it’s still gonna be a reach for u, not because of ur stats, but because they are ivies

I’m the opposite, good scores, low gpa
i’m worse off than u are

chance back?

Shoot for Penn it is the least selective Ivy.

Your test score isnt the greatest but why not try? You only have one life, life your dreams and try for your dream schools that might be a “reach.” Hopefully you can improve your test score! It doesn’t hurt =)

Chance me? =)
