Applying to architecture vs engineering programs

I've been interested in both architecture and civil engineering for years, and now I'm in the process of applying to college. I love both these fields A LOT. Cool building and structure designs give me goosebumps. The thing is, I don't know exactly which one is better suited for me as of yet. I want to go to a school with both a B.Arch and B.Engineering program (Syracuse, Penn State, VT). Usually, these are in totally seperate schools. Which one would be better to start out in?

I would recommend Architecture. The B. Arch is a 5-year program. You need to start there in order to finish on time.

My university also has both degrees and each has very specific course requirements that start in the first year such that switching will inevitably cause delays in graduation.

At Illinois Tech, we have seen a decline in applications for Architecture since the job market is very weak right now. Engineering has better prospects at the moment and you should consider that if both fields interest you equally.

Perhaps you should look at an architectural engineering program?
