Applying to be an RA!

Hi everyone! I’m really interested in becoming an RA. Would any current/former RAs like to tell me a little about their experiences? I’d like to work on East side, specifically Stone D or Dower. What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about being an RA?

I was an RA in Beebe back in the 80s! Great training, support and experience. My least favorite part was the selection process. I hope that part has changed. Good luck!

One of my daughter’s good friends was an RA in Dower. I can only speak third hand that you have have to be prepared to deal with some very awkward things in a firm and diplomatic manner. For example, one of the things D’s friend had to address was a student who masturbated loudly all the time and was causing a disturbance. The women on either side of her room complained and so the RA had to tactfully tell the offending student to chill. Are you prepared to have a conversation like that?

@Oregon2016 I hear it’s the most competitive job on campus… But this year they’re finally starting to pay RAs!

@Massmomm I am a SHE (Sexual Heath Educator) so I always have to be prepared for the “awkward” conversations, RA or not :slight_smile:

Hmm, I don’t know what I think of a stipend for that position… I was happy just to have a single.

@Oregon2016 Hell yes am I ready for that… If I’m lucky… ha
