Im interested in Umich engineering, but I would like to go to umich no matter what. My college counselor has been discouraging me from applying to the CoE because it is much more selective than LSA. Is it possible to apply to the CoE early action and apply to LSA regular decision if I dont get in?

No, you can’t.

It’s a pretty common rumor that CoE is significantly more difficult to get into over LSA, and I personally don’t think that’s true (and I was accepted and attend CoE). If you actually look at the numbers, the average acceptance rate for LSA and CoE is identical. Some people will say that it doesn’t mean much because of self selection, but even then, the average accepted GPA and ACT at LSA is a 3.9 and a 31, and for CoE it’s 3.9 and a 32, a trivial difference at best.

I’m assuming that if you are interested in engineering, you probably have a very strong math-science background from high school, something CoE actually appreciates more so than LSA. Many applicants (especially those with those backgrounds) would actually have an easier time applying straight to CoE over LSA.

If you’re interested in engineering, just apply directly to engineering.
