Applying to both Masters and PhD?

Hi.

Quick question:

From what I have seen, some schools frown upon applying to different fields at the same time within their school (i.e. applying to both an epidemiology phd and a biostatistics phd simultaneously)...

However, what is the general consensus on applying to both the Masters and PhD in a particular specialty (i.e. MPH and PhD)?

...or do I just have to apply to the PhD programs and bite the bullet if they all reject me?

If you apply for a PhD program and you’re rejected, some departments will automatically consider you for the master’s. You should check out each department you’re considering (or contact them) and check if this is the case.
