Applying to Bowdoin and feeling inadequate

Hi! So the deadline for applications is in 3 days… and I’m very nervous.

My stats:

GPA: 3.83 UW
SAT: 2220
ACT: 33 composite

EC’s: NHS, SNHS, ~60 hours of community service, but the big one is I’m president of Drama Club and I’ve been involved in theatre all four years

I’ve written my essay about intellectual engagement and focused it on my love of linguistics.

If anyone could tell me what my chances are and/or critique my essay, I’d be very happy and gladly send you my essay and read yours or whatever.

Thank you!!

bump please

Hello??? are you serious??? Your stats look GREAT and your GPA looks GREAT…I am sure your ECs are adequate and hopefully your essay shows them who you are as a person. Why are you so nervous? Is this the only school you want? I hope you are applying to other schools as well, so you can relax. I am not an expert essay reader, so I cannot help you there, but someone will help you, I am sure. Best of luck!

Hi theatrekid7,

It’s so great to hear that you’re applying to such wonderful school as Bowdoin. I believe that the admission committee will look to you as a whole person, and will not use just one factor in your application to cut you off. As far as I can see, your scores are excellent, but I don’t see many awards and honors? Bowdoin puts much emphasis on your academic achievement. But rest assured, if your essays are good enough and you can elaborate more on your ECs then I can’t find any reason that you couldn’t get in.

About your essays, I’m not an expert reader but I can try if you let me. But I write about intellectual engagement, too, and I’m sure the topic is so broad that you can nearly write about anything so I think that the contents should not cover many aspects and ideas.

Good luck with your application to Bowdoin, and I hope to see you there!

No need to feel inadequate: Your credentials are competitive.

Man you would blow me out of the water if I applied today. I’m not even sure I could get in today against all the competition.
Good luck on your application, you’ll end up at a great college regardless.
