Applying to Brown and Duke as Transfer

So here are my stats.

3.8 high school gpa
2180 SAT
3.9 gpa from Emory University

I am involved in clubs and extra-curriculurs here.

I am applying to Duke and Brown as a rising sophmore. I am hoping that applying from Emory will help a lot. What do you think of my chances?

Not that I am an expert, but its probably best to provide a little more information, i.e. what clubs you attended, so on and so forth.

Volunteer at hospital. In the club Chemory, which is a chemistry club. I am a chemistry major and music minor. I am also in club tennis. Also, just recently joined phi eta sigma, which is a national honor society. Nothing special.

if these were your community college stats, than i would say that you have no problem…

BUT.

my best gay friends was denied admission to UCLA as a freshman with a 4.0 and a perfect SAT score. he now makes a ton of money as the head-writer for rolling stone magazine…

i recommend reading “college admission secrets”.

i take that all back! i didn’t read the part about emory.

what are you ECs?

To be honest, I really don’t think your chances are great at all. Nothing really stands out in your application, so I’m going to have to say no to both.

Why are you transferring?

Brown has always been my dream school. I love its curriculum and location. Duke is more for my parents. But I really want Brown.

i’m applying to brown with a 3.80 college gpa and a 2250, also from a USN&WR #18-ranked school and also as a chemistry/ch.engineering major.

honestly, i don’t think our chances are that great (I say “our” because our stats are pretty similar). duke only accepts ~ 5%, too, so i would say your chance at that isn’t stellar either.

but hey, you never know. random, good, amazing things have been known to happen.

did you apply to any “backup” transfers?

No i didn’t, I dont want to go anywhere else. What school are you from?
