Let’s hear from you, BU applicants. My S is applying ED.

I am applying RD... as soon as i can condense my thoughts about marching band into 150 words...

I'm applying ED. I hope I get in!

WIckedsmaaht, what is it about BU that has you applying ED? From the research I've done, BU is more of a safety or back-up school for many applicants. One college guide said there were about 28,000 freshman applications, and only 400 ED applications. Those figures seem out of whack to me.

I want to go to BU because it's right in Boston. Yes, there are a lot of great colleges in Boston, but BU has been one that has really stood out for me. It's in my top 2 choices for colleges. BU has an incredible variety of programs and majors. I'm leaning toward a neuroscience type major, and from what I've researched, BU has a great program for that. Also, the students at BU seem to be very friendly and willing to help. I know BU is a safety for a lot of people, but I still think it's a great school. :) I am applying ED because I know the admittance rate for that program is higher than RD, and I just want to up my chances as much as possible.

It would be nice if the moderators on this board created a separate subforum for popular urban colleges like BU (similar to the ivy league section). Other schools in the forum could include:

NYU (NYC)
Fordham (NYC)
Northeastern (Boston)
George Washington (D.C.)
American (D.C.)
USC (L.A.)
UCLA (L.A.)
RIT (Rochester NY)
University of Rochester
Temple (Philly)
etc.

does anyone know how large a typical class is? and if people can generally enroll in classes of their choice without going on a mad rush?

I'm applying RD for BU. Anyone else here applying for the Trustee Scholarship?

i am. ive gotten about 4 letters from them telling me to apply for the scholarships and they even sent a letter to my parents telling them to tell me to apply for scholarships. i dont know if that is typical of them or not though.

i haven't gotten any of those letters... guess you can apply for them scholarships!

Parent here...DS is a sophomore at BU. Class registration is done online. You are given a time when YOU are able to access the online system for course registration. There is no mad rush...but you sometimes can't get the courses you want because they are full.

I know for the Trustee Scholarship you have to be nominated by your school, and they can only nominate one person or something like that. But I've gotten a bunch of those letters about the scholarships too.

Did anyone else get a letter about taking that engineering scholarship exam for a full ride 4 year scholarship?

I haven't gotten anything like that.

BU's one of my top choices... I'm applying regular though.

I visited over the summer and it's nice. I'm applying RD. What do you think my chances are?
ACT: 30Comp 31E 34R 26M 32S
GPA: 4.07 (With .5 added for Honors classes and 1 added for AP classes)
Class Rank: Top 14% out of 700 at good suburban High School
Environmental Science AP-4
US History AP-4

Senior Year
Stats AP
Euro AP
English Lit AP
5 French Honors
Bio AP

I am applying RD as well. Both my parents went to BU! We are actually going up to Boston this weekend. Maybe we will check out a hockey game before they move to the new stadium...

I took that exam last year. Unless, you're ridiculously good at math and physics, I would highly unrecommend doing it because it take time and the odds are like 100:1 of getting the scholarship.

Hmm... I'm applying RD, but I don't think I'm doing the Trustee scholarship, cuz I think the odds of winning it are like 542:1. Speaking of which, anyone know how many kids apply?

The Trustee's application says that 40/1400 get it, so you have a 1 in 35 chance to get it. The way I see it, it can't hurt.

It can't hurt, but it's so hard. I mean my twin and I both applied for it and statistically, we're the same on paper, so it probably came down to the minutiae of essays that got it for her and not for me.

Sean you definitely get in. What are your SATS? I applied last year RD and my sats were only 1230 at the time(720m 510v) and I was accepted into the engineering school. My gpa is nothing to brag about either(3.6). However my school is a top 5 school in NJ and has a very good college program there and we do send 3-8 kids to BU every year. But I still say you have a great chance.
