I'm going to a boarding school where about 15% of the student body goes to ivy leagues next year and i have a few questions. Right now my gpa is around a 3.5 at a good private school. I was wondering if my gpa is like around a 3.8weighted at boarding school... do i have a shot at top liberal arts schools an d maybe an ivy?? (if i get good sat scores 2200+)
my list is like...
upenn
columbia
wesleyan
trinity
bowdoin
middlebury
and
UVA

Broaden your list to include more "safeties" and you should be fine. You have said nothing about you interests, ecs, sats, etc. so it's hard to know what advice to give you.

I don't think most boarding schools weight grades, if that is what you are saying. I do believe that it is very possible to get into a top LAC with a low 3 GPA from a strong boarding school, particularly with good EC's, recs, etc. My son graduated with a 3.1-ish and was accepted at Lehigh, among others. These schools tend to have highly respected profiles and the colleges understand the rigor of the programs.
I have told my younger son to try to shoot for a min. 3.5 if he wants to go Ivy from his bs. He is a very strong athlete who should be able to compete D1 (I say should because he is a freshman, and you never know about injuries), so that is a big plus which is why I think the 3.5 range should do it. (Although at this stage, he wants nothing to do with the Ivies).

i was just talkking about grades.. so thank you all very much!!!

Ask to get a Naviance ID from your school's college guidance office. It includes acceptance history and has scattergrams plotting gpa and sat and act scores on x axis and gpa on y axis for your school only. The scattergrams will show accepted, rejected, deferred accepted and deferred rejected for your school. The same company that owns Naviance just purchased College Confidential, so it will be interesting to see how this develops.

omg burb parent you saved my life!!

Burb Parent, thanks for that news...they are two of my favorite resources.

You'll be fine...get into 50%+ of the schools on your list.
