So I want to go to Cornell's college of engineering but I realize its tougher to get into than the college of arts and sciences.
Since I'm interested in majoring in computer science, which is offered in both, can I apply to the college of engineering and if I don't get in, get differed to the college of arts and sciences?

You can simply apply to both colleges, designating Eng as primary, CALS as secondary. You specify this on the Cornell Supplement on CommonApp.

(I’m assuming you meant “deferred”, not “differed”.)

Remember that you have to write separate essays for each college.

Best of luck.

Okay thanks guys

It’s RARE that someone gets their second choice. That’s because your second choice is MANY other kids’ first choice. Research this carefully and make an educated plan. It’s important.

[Admissions counts](Undergraduate admissions - Institutional Research & Planning)
I don’t know why OP thinks it is easier to get into CAS than CoE. Based on the above graph, in 2012 17284 students applied to CAS and 2506 were accepted (14.5%), 9473 students applied to CoE and 1664 students were admitted (17.6%). On the other hand, there is probably more of self selection for CoE. I would think about what kind of education you want and apply to the school which would fit your personal goal.
