<p>Hi everyone, I m a student from India. I m planning to apply to US colleges. I wanted to ask that how to get the forms of various colleges and the furthur academic processes.
I m going to ask Finaid, will asking finaid diminish my chances. Also if possible, please tell me the various scholarships given for indian students(eg. Tata scholarship).</p>
<p>Colleges that give need based aid to international students fall under two catgories
Need blind and need based
Asking for financial aid from need blind colleges is not gonna effect ur chances at all
These are need blind colleges-
Amherst College ,Dartmouth College ,Harvard University, MIT, Princeton University, Yale University</p>
<p>As far as need based(rest all ivies and some LAC’s) colleges are concerned asking for aid will diminish ur chances, so unless u have really nice EC’s, high scores and essays dont even think of asking for full financial aid, i would advice u to ask for partial financial aid , I mean nowhere near to the total cost of attendance.</p>

<p>Asking for fin aid severely reduces chances at colleges except HYPMD.</p>
<p>Execept for TATA sch. there is no other sch. only for Indians. There are merit sch. but getting those is very tough.</p>
<p>And what about getting admin forms of the colleges??
And how do the colleges check the authentication of school grades given by the students( by mail or phone)??</p>

<p>ur school transcripts are stamped and by signed by the pricipal, each and every document is stamped by the school including the sealed application packet so what do u mean by authentication?</p>
<p>So, I need to send all my grades sealed in an envelope and stamped by the principal to the colleges??
By admin forms I mean conmon application, how do I get it??
And for my ECs, I m a state level player , so would I have to send all my certificates and a letter signed by my coach saying that" I m indeed a player" to the college too along with letters of recommendation by post??</p>
<p>no u dont need to send certificates signed by coaches dont worry about that just mention it in ur app

<p>and all u need to do is sign up on commonapp, and fill ur profile
and check each individual college site regarding the forms they require international applicants to submit,these forms will be available on commonapp site for downloading</p>

<p>Don’t bother applying for aid at non-need blind schools. They give it to 3-4 international students each year (out of a few hundred). Parents can’t afford it = apply to cheaper schools, stay in India, look at places like Singapore.</p>
<p>You can top your school, state and country, have a 2400 in SAT, a fantastic research project, several ECs with depth and leadership roles and still get rejected, much less get aid at those places.</p>
<p>if I dont apply for aid and take a study loan in India of say 90 lacs( fees for ivies are about 100 lacs right?)for supporting the tution fees, wikl I get into an ivy??</p>
<p>The loan comes after acceptance(so apply without aid then go to the bank for a loan) - this is a much better option in my opinion. </p>
<p>Engineering majors make $55,000 on average after college - you can manage to pay off the loan in a few years; even faster if your parents help you out.</p>
